Biopsy and Drainage

CIRA interventional radiologists are experts at both needle biopsy and abscess drainage. Common needle biopsy procedures performed by our interventional radiologists include fine-needle aspiration and core needle biopsy. Needle biopsy may be used to take tissue or fluid samples from muscles, bones and organs, such as the liver or lungs. Both needle biopsy and abscess drainage are usually performed using image-guided techniques such as fluoroscopy, CT and MRI, allowing radiologists to pinpoint the exact location of the abnormal tissue or abscess.
